Everything we've learned about making patch change day easy, from removing stubborn glue to wearing patches on holiday.
I'm Amy, co-founder of Nudi and an HRT patch wearer myself. Like so many women, I spent far too long scrubbing at sticky black squares, trying baby oil, and wondering why nobody had found a better way. This guide brings together everything we've learned since, from our own patch change days and from the thousands of women who've shared theirs with us.
This guide is about the practical, everyday side of wearing patches. For anything about your dose, your prescription or a skin reaction, always speak to your pharmacist or GP.
1. Why HRT patch glue is so stubborn
HRT patches are designed to stay put for days, through showers, sleep, sweat and everything in between. That means the adhesive is seriously strong, and when you peel a patch off, a layer of it often stays behind.
Some brands are harder to shift than others. Evorel, for example, is famously stubborn, while Estradot tends to come away more easily. And the longer residue sits on your skin, the more it collects fluff and fibres from your clothes and "bakes on", turning into those familiar grey or black rings.
The good news is that fresh glue is far easier to remove than old glue, so the best time to deal with it is on patch change day itself.

2. Your patch change day routine

A simple routine makes all the difference.
- Remove your old patch before your shower, not after. Water from the shower gets trapped in the glue and stops anything getting into the gaps between the glue and your skin.
- Spray Nudi onto the residue and leave it for 10–15 seconds.
- Wipe it away with your Easi Pad. Use the textured side to push stubborn glue away, and the smooth side to lift it off.
- For stubborn glue like Evorel, repeat on the bottom layer.
- Apply your new patch to clean, dry skin in a different spot. Your patch leaflet will tell you which areas to use and how often to rotate.
Find your sweet spot. Nudi loosens the glue, but if it dries before you wipe, the glue can grab hold again. Most people find 10–15 seconds works perfectly, but skin and glue vary. Try timing 5, 8 and 12 seconds on your phone and you'll quickly find what works for you.

3. Removing residue without hurting your skin
Most of us have tried everything at some point. Here's why the usual tricks often make things worse.
- Scrubbing and picking – leaves skin red, sore and sensitive, especially when you're doing it every few days.
- Baby oil and other oils – can loosen light residue, but they leave a greasy film behind that stops your next patch sticking properly.
- Nail varnish remover and alcohol wipes – harsh and drying on skin.
Nudi Spray was created to do the job gently. It's hypoallergenic, alcohol-free and fragrance-free, made with a blend of medical-grade siloxanes and Vitamin E, and it leaves no oily residue.

4. Caring for your skin between changes
- Rotate your patch sites as your patch leaflet advises, so each area gets a rest.
- Moisturise between changes, but not where your next patch is going. Lotion on that spot will stop the patch sticking well.
- Be gentle. Pat skin dry rather than rubbing, and avoid scrubbing old patch areas.
- If an area is red, itchy or sore, give it a break and mention it to your pharmacist.

5. Patches in summer, on holiday and on the go

Warm weather, swimming and travel all bring their own patch challenges.
- Heat and sweat can loosen patches and make glue messier. Sweat gets trapped in residue just like shower water, so wait until you've cooled down before removing glue.
- Swimming and the beach – check your patch leaflet, and press the edges down firmly after a swim.
- Flying – Nudi Spray 50ml fits within the hand luggage liquids allowance, so it can come on the plane with you.
- Pack everything together. A Patch Purse keeps your patches, spray and pad in one place, so nothing gets left behind.

6. Staying organised

Running out of patches, or finding a stray one at the bottom of your bag, is no fun. A few simple habits help.
- Keep everything for patch change day in one place. Our Patch Purse has a see-through mesh, so you can see at a glance how many patches you have left, and a bright neon zip, so it's easy to find in a bag or cupboard.
- Set a reminder on your phone for patch change days.
- Reorder before you run out. One 100ml can of Nudi lasts most customers around 4–6 months, and you can set up a subscription so it arrives automatically.

7. When to speak to your pharmacist or GP
Nudi helps with the sticky side of patches, but some things need a professional.
- A rash, redness or itching that doesn't settle
- Broken or very sore skin where you wear patches
- Patches that keep falling off
- Any questions about your dose, brand or prescription
The NHS menopause pages and Women's Health Concern are also brilliant, trusted places to find out more.

Quick answers
What's the best way to remove HRT patch glue?
Remove your patch before showering, spray Nudi onto the residue, leave it for 10–15 seconds, then wipe it away with the Easi Pad. Repeat on stubborn glue.
Why won't my Evorel glue come off?
Evorel is one of the most stubborn glues. Remove it while it's fresh, make sure your skin isn't wet or sweaty, and do two rounds, top layer then bottom layer.
Will my next patch still stick?
Yes. Nudi leaves no oily residue, so your next patch sticks well. Just remember to use a different spot each time.
Can I use Nudi on other adhesives?
Yes. It works on pain relief patches, contraceptive patches, residue left after removing a glucose monitor sensor, medical tape and breast tape.
